Syntax

BUFNO=number of buffers

number of buffers
specifies the number of buffers, from 1 to 10, that you want to allocate in bytes (n), kilobytes (nK), megabytes (nM), or gigabytes (nG).

Details

Under OpenVMS, there is not a maximum number of buffers that you can allocate, except for memory constraints. However, it is unusual to specify more than 10.

You might want to vary the value of the BUFNO= system option if you are trying to maximize memory usage or the number of observations per page.
