SFU expert available for comment on first Coronavirus case reported in B.C.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in Vancouver, B.C. yesterday, but added that the risk to British Columbians continues to be low.

However, earlier today the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency. 

Canada currently has a total of three confirmed cases — two in Toronto and a third in British Columbia.

Caroline Colijn from Simon Fraser University’s Department of Mathematics is available for comment. Her research focusses on developing mathematical tools connecting sequence data to the ecology and evolution of infections.
