Former SFU basketball star inducted into Canada West Hall of Fame

April 29, 2024

Jessica Kaczowka, a former SFU star basketball player, has been named to the Canada West Hall of Fame's Class of 2023-24. Canada West is the student athletics conference that SFU competed in during the peak of Kaczowka’s success for the team.

Kaczowka's exceptional performances led SFU to tremendous team success in two different conferences throughout her student-athlete career, including a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship in 2002. She enjoyed quick success on joining the team in 1998, being named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American in her freshman and sophomore campaigns, while leading SFU to the NAIA championship game in both seasons.

During the 2001-02 campaign, Kaczowka led SFU to an undefeated 35-0 record, earning recognition as the Canada West Most Valuable Player and national CIS Player of the Year.

Kaczowka’s success is celebrated with her induction to the Canada West Hall of Fame, which was created in 2019 to commemorate 100 years of university sport across Western Canada.
