Queer Arts Festival presents: Rainbow Refugee Discussion Forum
A g/local world cafe dialogue, at the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre, 2nd Floor of SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.
To broaden the impact of QAF's commissioned opera When the Sun Comes Out, the organization partnered with Rainbow Refugee to engage in community outreach programs; giving voice to a wide range of true-life stories surrounding the issues raised by the opera: homophobic violence, migration, and the search for community and home.
Invitations were open for people to share their own stories, or just listen.
Speakers included Tehseen A. (Rainbow Refugee), Chris Morrissey (Rainbow Refugee), Carven Li (Centre for Race, Autobiography, Gender and Age), Fatima Jaffer (Trikone, UBC), Rachel Rose (librettist, When the Sun Comes Out).
Dialogue facilitators included members of Our City of Colours, My Circle, Queer Migration Collective, Rainbow Refugee, and the cast and creators of When the Sun Comes Out.
