Shaping Vancouver | What is Vancouver's Heritage?
Co-presented by Heritage Vancouver Society and SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement.
The evening’s discussion was around what Vancouver’s heritage is and what heritage values ought to be recognized. It then tied these values to a discussion of the Heritage Register, an inventory that identifies approximately 2,200 heritage sites and resources. The register has been a fundamental component of heritage conservation in our city, but needs to be updated. The panellists discussed how the existing register could be improved to reflect and recognize a broad range of heritage values, beyond just the architectural.
A general discussion with the audience followed and at the end, everyone was be invited to submit feedback on the evening’s topic to the consultants leading the Heritage Action Plan.
