Soft handoff overview
Soft handoff is known as “make before break”.
It occurs when MS starts to communicate with the 2nd base station (BS) without breaking its communication path with the current serving BS.
The same frequency is used in adjacent cells in CDMA system.
Each BS transmits a pilot pseudo-noise (PN) sequence at a different time offset to identify itself.
Each offset is called a pilot PN offset.
There are 512 pilot PN offsets.
