Why TCP option (as opposed to end-to-end solution)?
- TCP is the most successful transport protocol
- wireless links require similar services provided by TCP
- any new protocol requires thorough validation and difficulties of deployment in the existing network
Link layer solution can improve TCP performance for links with high BER, easy to implement, requires no modification in the wireline domain
Carefully designed ACK control in BS can improve congestion response time, reduce burstiness of wireless links.
