#!/usr/local/bin/php Installing the Papercut client for Macs
The first step for using the Papercut printer accounting system is to install a small piece of software.  After that, printers are added, which will be covered in a different page.

Special note: Mac OS/X 10.8 (aka, Mountain Lion) and newer have an additional step that must be done first.

If you have such a machine, follow the instructions here before doing anything else.

1. Using Safari, download the Mac install files from

http://www.sfu.ca/~papercut/downloads/mac.zip

2. The files will appear in your Downloads folder on your dock.
3. Right-click on the folder and select

Open "Downloads"

4. Open the

mac

folder and then double-click

client-local-install

5. You may be asked about a downloaded app.  If so, click Open.

(You may not be asked .. no worries if you're not asked.)

6. If you see the dialog box shown to the right, click Yes.

You may also see a dancing "script" icon on your dock.  Double-click it to reveal the Yes/Quit dialog and then click Yes.

7. If you do not have Java installed (and many modern Macs do not), you get this message.  Click Install.

If you DO have Java installed, skip straight to step 12.

8. Click Agree.
9. Then patiently wait as Java is installed.

Once done, click OK.

10.This window has been hiding behind the Java install windows.  Click OK.

11. You've seen this before; click Open.

12. Ta-da, Papercut is installed.

Fill in your SFU user ID and SFU password.

If you are the ONLY user of this computer, click

"Remember my identity"

as shown here.  If the computer is shared, leave the box unchecked.

Then click OK.

13.All going well, you should now see your balance in what will become a familiar window.

You can start to add printers.  This will take you to the add printers page.

If you do not see your balance appearing, you may not yet be in the Papercut system.  (If you're not in the system, you clearly can't have a balance.)

See your local computer support person to see why you don't.

There's one last thing to do. Since you'll probably need the Papercut client every time you log in, you may as well start the client automatically. This link gives instructions on how to have your Mac fire up Papercut every time you log in.

With all of the above complete, it's time to add some printers. This link will show you how. EOF; HTML::endBox(); HTML::displayFooter(); ?>
