Part of what this letter (which I have signed, but had no part in writing or conceiving, just to be clear) is asking for is an inquiry into the incident, which would perhaps provide the clarification you seek.

Apologies for cross-posting Colleagues, Last week on SFU’s Burnaby campus, a Black alumnus was racially profiled and violently arrested. The actions taken by SFU Safety & Risk Services are being justified as pandemic response and President Johnson stated in her email communication that there will be no “full public debrief of events.” This response is unacceptable. If SFU intends to fulfill its EDI commitments, if it hopes to do anything more than issue empty statements, and – most importantly – if it is genuinely invested in creating a safe environment for Black students, faculty, staff, and community members, we must demand more. Please consider signing this statement condemning the violent arrest of a Black SFU alumnus and sharing with your networks.
