Thanks James and Harald!
I would love to remove my mask to teach, but I also don't want to be
this guy:

Please don't be this guy either and keep much more than 2m distance, if your classroom allows. Or, wait until BC cases are way down again.
(I know he wasn't vaccinated, but he was infectious. We know that if vaccinated people get infected, they are just as contagious.)

Subject: Re: for information
here is the update from our department chair (Biology) with some additional details. I’ll send all of it for context, I guess the first and last bullet points are of interest. How to police/enforce that mask mandate?
Best wishes,
Harald
Dear all,
Attached are the latest guidelines and protocols for the fall semester, sent today by Wade Parkhouse. I've highlighted below some points that are important, especially for people teaching this semester.
Masks
- Mask are mandatory, unless people have a medical exemption. How the exemptions will work is still not clear.
- The Faculty has sent a supply of disposable masks to the Biology office. Instructors can grab some on their way to class to give to students who have somehow forgotten theirs. There will also be some visors available to give to unmasked students,
who should try to distance physically as much as possible from others in the classroom.
- If you wish, you can lecture without a mask if you can remain > 2m from your students in the classroom. You might want to use a visor to retain some protection, or add a visor to your mask if you work in close proximity to students, e.g. in labs.
Please explain to your students why you are removing your mask if you do so. The Department will purchase good quality visors for instructors who want one. Please let Kathryn know ASAP.
- If a student refuses to wear a mask, and refuses to leave your classroom, you should cancel the class and leave. Please warn students in your first lecture that this is what will happen if someone doesn't comply.
Included in updated Covid guidelines sent out by the Associate VPA today:
"Instructors are not required to wear a mask while teaching if they are able to maintain a two-metre distance from students."
Best wishes, JDF
