Re: REB, our letter, and Senate

Indeed, Mark, yes, SCAR has been asked to work on this urgently. I would hope we’ll see movement measured in days, not weeks.

Thanks for your good work on this, Dan!

What sort of timeline is SCAR working to? It feels somewhat urgent to get the current membership of the REB clarified, at least.

Hi all,
Thank you for your engagement in the issues surrounding the REB. We ended up with 267 signers to the letter which is a huge testament to the importance of this issue (see attached)! President Johnson acknowledged the receiving the letter and I believe it carried a lot of weight in what happened at Senate.

So, what happened at Senate? We had a passionate and fulsome discussion of the issues, and like any good legislative body, dodged the question by referring it back to committee. I say that tongue in cheek as I think this is a good thing. The issue has been sent back to SCAR (Senate Committee onAgenda and Rules) to determine a way forward and the VPRI has committed not to implement the procedural changes while SCAR does its work.

The voting members of SCAR are: myself, Joy Johnson, Stephen Spector, Wade Parkhouse, Thecla Schiphorst, Bryan Daniel, Abhishek Parmar, and Priyanka Dhesa. I would encourage you to reach out to them and share your thoughts regarding the issue. I will make sure they all have seen the letter we crafted. My hope is that the committee will indeed be able to create a collegial way forward.

Thanks again for engaging, and please continue to follow the issue as our work unfolds.

Dan
