Surrey campus Executive Director Steve Dooley receives inaugural award for advancing Canada-India links

November 19, 2021

SFU Surrey campus Executive Director Steve Dooley will be recognized for his contributions to furthering South Asian health initiatives between Canada and India, at the 7th annual Drishti Awards Gala on November 19.

Dooley is the inaugural recipient of the Canada India Network Society (CINS)-Drishti Award for Building Canada-India Links. He will be among other winners being honored by Drishti Media Group for their innovative work done in dedication and service to others. The Drishti Awards are an annual premier event to celebrate, recognize and promote excellence of leadership in the community.

As executive director of the Surrey campus, Dooley has supported CINS initiatives, including the CINI Conference organized by CINS and co-hosted by Fraser Health and SFU. The SFU Surrey campus was the host site for the conference in 2010, 2014 and 2018 and 2021.

Dr. Arun Garg, CINS Chair and President, appreciates Dooley’s support of CINS. “CINS is very proud of its long-time partnership with SFU to promote and build health society collaborations between Canada and India,” says Garg. “Past and present, Steve has been a strong proponent of this work. I am looking forward to continuing to work with Steve and the SFU community for years to come.”

“I am truly humbled to receive this award and would like to recognize my colleagues at SFU for their work in helping to build these important connections,” says Dooley. “There is more work to be done and we look forward to continue to promote health in the South Asian community.  Thank you CINS and Drishti for this very special honor.”

Congratulations, Steve!
