Transform the SFU Experience

Why Your Nomination Matters

October 22, 2023

We all have that coworker who goes above and beyond. Some have called SFU their home for the past few decades, while others are new to the community.

Regardless of their role or length of service, they work with unwavering dedication to make SFU a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Their efforts should not go unnoticed and therefore, SFU is calling for nominations for the Staff Achievement Awards.

Nomination is easy, and taking a moment to submit a nomination is a meaningful way to let your colleague know the positive impact they have made, not only with their immediate team members, but for the entire SFU community.

Last year, 21 outstanding individuals and teams received a Staff Achievement Award across several categories. Kilim Park, research manager of SFU Sustainability, was honored with the Innovation award for her role in creating SFU’s first Living Lab program. Park’s nominator wrote: “Dr. Park’s work serves to break down silos across the university, amplify the impact of sustainability and climate action initiatives and improves the life of staff, faculty and students.”

Todd Mann, 2022 Work Performance Award recipient and facilities services project manager at the Surrey campus, is commonly referred to as the “walking encyclopedia of campus operations,” Mann was responsible for completing the installation of ablution stations at SFU Surrey, supporting SFU’s goal of becoming a more equitable and inclusive campus community. Mann’s nominator wrote: “Todd consistently prioritizes campus needs before his own and has never sought out recognition for his exceptional performance, though it’s long overdue.”

These are just a few examples of some of the outstanding contributions previous Staff Award winners have made to the community.

Seeing staff members recognized is inspiring, motivating and just feels good. Don’t delay, show your appreciation today and submit a nomination by November 3, 2023. Learn more about the nomination process, the ten different award categories, past awardees and the selection process.
