BISC students shine at ESBC Annual General Meeting

BISC students in the Gries lab won awards at the Entomological Society of BC (ESBC) Annual General Meeting, held Friday October 4 at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria.

Andi Fischer (Gries lab) won the Best Student oral presentation in the PhD category for his talk “Female false black widow spiders sense, and behaviourally and physically respond to, female conspecific sex pheromone”. Andi also received the ESBC graduate student scholarship.

Yonathan Uriel (also from the Gries lab) won the Best Student Oral presentation in the Master’s category with his talk “Genetic plasticity does not protect the green peach aphid from parasitoids”.

Also noteworthy from the Gries lab: recent grad Dr. Dan Peach is the new Director of the ESBC and current student Asim Renyard is the ESBC’s new Student Director!
