Emily Lucas explores Undergraduate Research in Biology

January 24, 2025

Meet SFU Biological Sciences student Emily Lucas!

Emily applied for an NSERC USRA for summer 2024 to work in Dr. Julian Christians’ lab, after a special topics course sparked her interest in how environmental conditions in early life shape people’s risk for long-term health issues. During her research term she assisted with a systematic review of how prenatal maternal stress differently impacts male and female offspring health.

“Don’t hesitate to talk to your professors, especially about topics related to their area of interest. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive—most professors are more than happy to discuss their work. Many of them have become mentors I look up to," she says.
