PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS

Limitations:

A large limitation for me in this project was mainly that I did not have adequate knowledge and experience with ArcMap to format and export data into IDRISI. Which made the project very difficult for me. I was stuck on this step for so long that once I finally got two of my data sets imported into IDRISI, I did not have the time to use the other census data sets that I was planning on using. These data sets would have incorporated a much deeper understanding of what and specifically how many people would be affected in the different levels of sea level rise. This would have provided a much better spatial analysis component in the project.

Problems:

The major problems that I encountered in ArcMap were that I could not get the separate images in my DEM to line up properly so they could be merged into one image.

Another problem that I encountered in ArcMap was that when I joined my population census data spread sheet to the shapefile, it cut out a large portion of the map and I was not able to figure out how to change this so I decided not to incorporate it into my analysis.

Lastly, when I imported my landuse data set into IDRISI and changed the pixel sizes, some of my landuse categories merged and it was difficult to re assign them back to the way that they were in ArcMap. I ended up having to go back to ArcMap and re-do the export with different pixels and then re assigned new landuse categories in IDRISI.
