Data Acquisition
The data used in this project mostly obtained from SFU SIS lab data warehouse folder and some of the data were created from geocoding of collected information.
Data Used
Digital Boundary File for the 2006 Census:
Moreimmigrants_CT: showing the 5 communities that have the most immigrants per capita at Census Tract spatial level in Metro Vancouver;
[based on the maps done by The Vancouver Sun]
Downtown_CT: showing Metro Vancouver’s downtown area at Census Tract spatial level;
TransLink's Google Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) Data:
All routs: all current provided public transit routes in Metro Vancouver;
Skytrain: including the current skytrain networks (Expo line, Millennium line and Canada line) and constructing Evergreen line;
FTN: showing Metro Vancouver’s Frequent Transit Network (including bus, Skytrain, Seabus and West Coast Express) which provide transit service in approximately every 15 minutes in both direction throughout the day;
[It extracted from all routes, and was selected FTN bus routes base on Translink’s report]
GVRD Landuse 2001:
Residential Area: showing all the residential area in Metro Vancouver, including single family, apartments rural, and town house;
Residential_Apt_TownHouse: showing residential area only contain high-rise apartment, townhouse and low-rise apartment.
Geocoding data:
Location of high-rank secondary school and Universities: including the high ranked secondary schools in BC, as well as UBC and SFU campuses.
-33 secondary schools that ranked within 50 out of 284 school in BC were used (Fraser Institute School rankings 2011-2012; to see all selected schools -> click) - 4 universities location were used, they are UBC Vancouver campus and SFU Burnaby, Surrey and Downtown campuses. |
Census Tract: Area that is small and relatively stable. Census tracts usually have a population between 2,500 and 8,000 persons. They are located in census metropolitan areas and in census agglomerations that have a core population of 50,000 or more. (Statistics Canada) |
