| Spatial Analysis: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Two types of spatial analysis were preformed on the data collected. Firstly a sensitivity analysis was preformed to determine the relative weights of each of the factors; secondly a locational analysis was preformed to find the best location to build a new golf course given the information discovered in the sensitivity analysis. Sensitivity Analysis: In order to conduct a sensitivity analysis three factors were considered, distance from major routes of travel, landuse and proximity to greenspace. An MCE was preformed three times, each time a different factor was given a large amout of weight and the other two factors were given realtivly little, once the MCEs were completed the vector golf course location layer was overlayed and compared. The factor that placed the most golf courses in their present, or close to present location was given a larger weight in the locational analysis. It also indicated which landuse factors considered have the largest influence on location. Below is an example of the weigh table used in each MCE, in each of the three that were conducted the same weights remained consistent only the factor under consideration changed.
The results from the sensitivity analysis can be seen on the Results page. Locational Analysis: In the locational analysis a MCE was preformed taking into consideration 4 factors and 2 constraints. The four factors taken into consideration are the three listed above with the present location of golf courses added in as well; this factor is now considered as we are looking for a location for a new course where as before the goal was to find which landuse factor yielded the greatest amount of weight on where they located. Although distance from present locations of golf courses was not considered in the sensitivity analysis it was given a fair amount of weight in the locational analysis as it would be a large determining factor as to where new golf courses located, locating too close to others may result in added competition which may be undesirable. The two constraints that were included were landuse, and wetlands. For the landuse constraint certain types of landuse that would not be suitable for the development were constrained from analysis, these included, residential, commercial, governmental and institutional, and resource industrial areas. Wetlands were also included as while they may occur in open areas, recreational areas and green spaces that are all considered appropriate for development they also would pose problems for course construction and are thus not included in the possible suitable areas. Below the weights for the locational MCE can be seen.
As can be seen here the largest weights were assigned to golf course location and the landuse type. The results of the MCE can be seen on the results page. |
