Conclusion

I found an area in Prince George that corresponded highly with my factors. A fairly sufficient area of Prince George rated 255 on the scale of 0-255 for suitability. When I compare the area chosen to the ArcGIS map of the area the area corresponded strongly with what I had considered an ideal location for the care home, close to the library, two reccentres, a large park and several elementary schools. I feel IDRISI was a better choice than ArcGIS to chose a location for the care home as it creates a fuzzy decreasing surface of suitability whereas ArcGIS would chose areas by Boolean set theory choices. Elderly people’s ability to walk to or access community facilities continuously decreases with an increase in distance. Boolean set theory cannot accommodate the continuously decreasing level of suitability.
