Background

Crime rates in the city of Vancouver has increased to where it has become the second highest in the country. In the days after the crime, the focus is on the person or persons who committed the crime. The victim usually falls into the background, someone who is often portrayed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, victims of a crime need the most support to deal with what occurred and how to transition from dealing with all the aspect of the crime, to making court appearances and how to move on with their life.

Crime is not a series of random events. There are many factors that form patterns that can be predicted. Criminals tend to fall into a pattern and likewise there are people that studies have shown tend to be more vulnerable to criminal activity.

This project is intended to identify the population that is most vulnerable to becoming the victim of a crime and identify the whether current locations of victim services are accessible to where vulnerable people live and to suggest possible new locations of victim service centres in the city of Vancouver.
