Background

Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) is the study area in this project because it is the third largest city in Canada with ethnic and cultural diversity of population. Therefore, it is easier for a restaurant here to attract more diners than in other cities in BC.

After the determination of the study area, in order to find where the most suitable areas in GVRD are for a Chinese restaurant, some factors and constraints should also be considered.

First, the new restaurants must be located in commercial or commercial - residential/mixed areas.

Second, because regular customers may be Chinese for a Chinese restaurant, the new restaurant had better be located in the areas with high Chinese population density.

Also, the new restaurant had better be located in the areas with high family income where people usually have extra money to dine at a restaurant.

Moreover, the new restaurant had better be close to big commercial centers where there are a big flow of people. In GVRD, Downtown Vancouver, Metrotown in Burnaby, Richmond Center, Coquitlam Center and Surrey Centre are considered the candidates.

What's more, the new restaurant should be close to Skytrain stations so that people can walk to the restaurant from stations.

Similarly, the new restaurant should be close to bus exchange centers so that people can take the advantage of the public transportation system.

In general, these requirements can be concluded with constraints and factors.
