Spatial Analysis
Both MCE approaches have been used (Boolean and Non-Boolean). First, by using the Boolean approach, the final image was created by overlaying all the images together.
The most suitable location is located near the 8 rinks sports complex. This area is a appropiate location for a volleyball facility because the area is expanding.
When using the Non-Boolean approach, the constraints and factors were used to determine the suitable locations for a new volleyball facility. Multi-criteria Evaluation is a process for accessing and aggregating many criteria using a weight linear combination. The Analytical Hierarchy Process was used to determine the importance of factors in choosing a suitable area for a volleyball facility. Two Multi Criteria Evaluations were used for this locational analysis. The first MCE was based on 2 constraints which are the landuse and age (between 15 to 39) and 6 factors. I have assumed that the ages of 15 to 39 are high participants of volleyball and that the facility should be located near the most populated areas of these age groups.
The Matrix table for the first MCE is shown below.

More weight is placed on transportation such as bus stops and major road networks. Skytrain stations did not have as much weight because bus stops can transport people to bus stations. Weight on other facilities was important because the location had to be away from current areas. Both the land and slope were not as important as transportation which resulted in low weights.
The darker areas of purple indicate the most suitable area to build the development.
The RECLASS module was then used to reclassify the image based on their suitability. The image was reclassified into 5 classes (click to view reclassification ). The most suitable area is assigned a value of “5”. The final result is shown on the results page.
The second MCE is based on one constraint which is the landuse and 6 of the same factors previously mentioned. Unlike the first MCE, where I focused on specific age groups, this MCE does not focus on age. Volleyball is a sport for all ages and the facility can be used for anyone. Therefore, this MCE will focus on landuse.
The Second Matrix table for the second MCE is shown below.

As mentioned before, transportation is the main concern compared to other factors. Bus stops are mostly weighted as the main importance because some people rely on public transportation to get to one place to another. Other facilities are weighted a little more than others because to avoid competition with other areas.
The most suitable location for development of a new facility for all ages is represented in dark red. Similar to the first MCE, the image is reclassed into “5” categories” where “5” is the most suitable area for development.
The final suitable image is shown on the results page.
