Data Collection
Digital Elevation Model:
A DEM of the GVRD in ESRI GRID format was acquired from the S: drive's Data Warehouse folder. It was converted into IDRISI's format using an ArcMap plugin. This file was in NAD83 UTM-10N projection.
Land use:
GVRD land use polygon data was acquired from the S: drive's Data Warehouse folder. The features sharing the same land use category were aggregated together in ArcMap for ease of use in the analysis phase, and the shapefile was imported into IDRISI, before being converted into raster format. This file was in NAD83 UTM-10N projection.
Roads:
Data for Canada's road network was acquired from the S: drive's Data Warehouse folder, and clipped to the approximate shape of the study area by intersecting with the land use shapefile, projected into UTM-10N, imported into IDRISI, and converted from vector to raster for analysis.
Fire Halls:
Addresses for fire halls were found primarily from municipality websites, and were geocoded using geocoder.ca, and then plotted in ArcMap and projected into UTM-10N. This was then imported into IDRISI for use in the analysis. The sites used to find the addresses, and problems encountered finding and geocoding the data can be found here.
