Pyschoanalysis

In the map below, you can see that as the density of tweets rise so too does the concentration of the various eateries. The bulk of which can be found near transit centers. This may seem like a common sense correlation but when mapped in this way is highly enlightening.

 

Obesity trends also occur in areas of the above phenomena. Hover over the above map to show obese (black) and overweight (red) points.

Findings from Tweets:

 

  • People talked about food in a positive way despite it was usually unhealthy
  • People were proud of their unhealthy activities
  • Eating was often associated with emotions

Psychoanalysis is the study of why people do certain things, or the mental and social mechanisms that are the drives behind our attitudes and behaviors. In order to drill down the vast complexity of the analysis used in regards to Twitter please see the diagram below.

 

Relation of Subjugation

  • Sacrifice of individuality in order to conform to the majority
  • Actions do not make the individual stand out
  • Commonly known as group think

 

 

Antagonism

  • Can be positive or negative
  • Decidedly counter to the will of the group
  • Specifically acted on for attention

Objects of Desire

  • Universally recognized object that is wanted
  • Never truly attainable
  • Often used as a mechanism to garner envy
