 |
At the conclusion of our project, we have realized many of the goals that we originally planned to achieve. Our first major accomplishment of the project was the successful conversion of the attribute and spatial data into a working geodatabase. To facilitate a true geodatabase, every census level was completed with divisions into various categories for maximum efficiency and organized structure. |

| Our second major accomplishment was that of a user interface, constructed using VB which helps users access our geodatabase with increased efficiency. User can select a geographic region and set of variables to focus on with the end result being the extraction of this user-specified data in the form of a text file. This interface reaches all students and researchers, even those who are not advanced in GIS or database use. With this interface in place, users now have the ability to extract attribute data and combine it with already existing spatial data. |

| The third component to our success included a visualization and download tool created using ArcIMS for the 1996 Canada Census spatial data. This can be accessed by clicking the icon in the toolbar titled "Launch Interactive Spatial Maps." ArcIMS was used to create multiple maps for various levels of census aggregation. This includes an easy-to-use web interface which facilitates access to FEDs, CMAs, CTs and EA levels of census. User may identify attributes of any given census area as well as download the spatial data which they see on the screen for select provinces. The main goal of ArcIMS and our database was to increase the users knowledge of the census data and improve access as well as download flexibility. We feel that we have achieved both of these goals. |

| The ArcIMS portion of our project has the potential to become a much more diverse tool that at its present state. An extension of our ArcIMS viewers could include a users ability to select a group of polygons at any census level followed by specific database variables for an ultimate output of custom zipped datasets linking both the specified attribute and spatial data. |

| Another addition that would make our project more useful would be an extensive collection of Metadata for increased user accuracy and support documentation. Relating to this is a possibiltiy for user guides that could ultimately replicate all processes completed step-by-step throughout our project. This would be extremely helpful if a future user wanted to return down our exact project path. |

| In summary, future possibilities relating to this project are very important considerations. With the arrival of the 2001 Canada Census in its full form comes a whole new opportunity to expand the user's ability to access and analyze census data using Geographic Information Science. |
