Abstract

Different metrics are used to set access targets for acute or hospital care in the healthcare system. The three most commonly used metrics are the target time for access (TTA), target access ratio (TAR), and the target occupancy ratio (TOR). We will show how queueing theory models can be used to relate these metrics and thus inform longterm planning of acute care capacity.
