Abstract

Professor Gruben is an Associate Professor in the School for Contemporary Arts Film Program, "Interogating Narrative" A presentation on her films, her approach to teaching screenwriting, and her more recent academic work on narrative structure in western and Indian films.

Patricia Gruben is the Director for Praxis Centre for Screenwriters and Director of the Field School in Art & Culture of Contemporary India. She has written and directed several experimental narrative shorts, two dramatic features and a feature-length documentary, which have been screened internationally in cinemas, on television, and at numerous festivals including Toronto, Sundance, New York and Edinburgh. She also works as a script consultant and screenwriter, and has published several articles and book chapters on Canadian filmmakers, screenplay structure, and adaptation. She teaches screenwriting, directing and acting for film, and film studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts.
