SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement and Megaphone are delighted to present the completed Voices of the Street podcast—a Below the Radar original series created by Megaphone storytellers.

SFU STUDY FINDS COVID-19 LED TO A RISE IN LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION IN OLDER ADULTS

A new report on social isolation among older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic, prepared by gerontology professor Andrew Wister and co-authored by postdoctoral fellow Laura Kadowaki, addresses rates of depression and loneliness in Canada.

“There is a need for digital technology education and training programs for older adults to address the existing digital divide,” says Wister. “Effective interventions to reduce social isolation among older adults are needed.”

 

On April 13, we heard from SFU experts on foreign policy, cyberwarfare and dis/misinformation, refugee crises and more at a panel discussion on "Understanding the War in Ukraine." Missed the event? The recording is now available for viewing.

The search is underway and will remain open until Thursday, April 21, end of day. You can find the complete search schedule as well as the position description and candidate profile on the VPA website. Please contact avpa_search@sfu.ca for any questions.

 

Submit your proposal for SFU’s Community Engagement Initiative 2022 by Friday, April 22. Projects that build or deepen respectful, equitable partnerships with SFU’s communities will be considered for grants worth up to $10,000. In the past eight years, close to $1 million has been allocated in support of 166 community-university projects.

This summer, road work and upgrades on University Drive East (UDE) will result in limited access to vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian traffic April 18–September 2. Upgrades include installation of street lights on UDE (between Gaglardi Way and University High Street), widening the multi-use path and repaving Nelson Way and UDE. Learn how these changes may affect your commute.
