MEET IKJYOT REHAL, BULLYING AND HARASSMENT CASE MANAGER

BIOLOGY PROFESSOR RELOCATES TO NUNAVUT FOR NEW ROLE AT POLAR KNOWLEDGE CANADA

David Hik, who has spent the past 38 years studying the ecology and climate of high latitude and alpine environments, made the move to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in September.

GET TO CAMPUS FASTER—EVEN IN SNOW

Faculty, staff and students require more reliable transit options to SFU during winter weather. The Burnaby Mountain Gondola will make it faster and easier to get to campus, year-round—even in the snow. Tell your friends and colleagues and help bring a gondola to SFU.

DEALING WITH SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER?

In this webinar presented by Homewood Health, SFU’s employee and family assistance program provider, determine if you or someone you may know may be suffering from seasonal affective disorder. Learn strategies to manage seasonal depression and anxiety, and increase well-being and effectiveness during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

 

Library branches will be operating with reduced hours until January 24, 2022 and have temporarily adjusted some borrowing policies, including recalls and laptop loan periods. Remote services continue to be available.

Please note the SFU Burnaby campus community shuttle is temporarily out-of-service, with normal operations resuming the week of January 24, 2022.

 

Tools for Well-being in the Classroom is part of SFU’s Healthy Campus Community initiative. It offers instructors quick, practical strategies to support student well-being along with a forum for exchanging ideas about how to foster student well-being and success. Faculty members and instructors are invited to register for Spring 2022 to gain access to a toolkit of activities and templates and become part of a community of care.

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH (SAAM)

This year, the theme is Cultivating a Community of Care. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in events and activities and request a workshop for their unit or class. You can also follow the Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office on Instagram or Facebook to learn how to create a community of care both within the SFU community and beyond.

HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THE WAY WE COLLECT STUDENT FEEDBACK?

At the end of every course, SFU undergraduates share feedback about their learning experiences via an online Student Experience of Teaching and Courses survey. The university is inviting input from faculty members to help improve the format and use of the surveys. Sign up for one of these online information-gathering sessions to provide your input:

  • Tuesday, January 18, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, January 21, 9:30–10:30 a.m.
