MEET SFU'S NEWSMAKER AWARD WINNERS

SFU recognizes Megan Mackenzie, Scott Lear, Julianne Piper and Chloe Riley as the 2021 recipients of the SFU Newsmakers awards for their significant achievements in informing media stories and commentary on a diversity of issues.

 

INDIGENOUS SFU STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF SHARE FEEDBACK ON PROPOSED MEDICAL SCHOOL

On January 20, SFU’s vice-president, academic and provost Catherine Dauvergne held a virtual information session for Indigenous students, faculty and staff on early planning for SFU’s proposed medical school. The What We Heard report now includes a summary of feedback received at this session.

 

SFU economics researchers found that vaccine mandates increase uptake of COVID shots by almost 70 per cent. The study concluded that mandates are a more effective strategy in increasing vaccination rates than other approaches, such as financial incentives and behavioural nudges.

In this week's Scholarly Impact, meet Mike Hayden, SFU Distinguished Professor and senior researcher at the ALPHA project, and learn more about his work in antimatter research. He is part of the international team that succeeded in cooling down antihydrogen atoms—the simplest form of atomic antimatter—using laser light.

SFU'S HYBRID WORK PROGRAM IS HERE

Over the last two years, we’ve learned a lot about our collective ability to be flexible and creative in where and how we work. Now, after a successful “test and learn” pilot phase, Human Resources and the university’s executive team are excited to share SFU’s Hybrid Work Arrangements program. ACCESS TO FINS AND MYINFO WILL RESUME ON FEBRUARY 28
