Facilities

SFU opened in 1965 atop Burnaby Mountain, a dramatic Arthur Erickson creation that has since grown to include the new UniverCity development, providing housing and a selection of services to accompany the vibrant campus community.

As SFU's main campus, Burnaby offers a variety of meeting and event spaces, providing opportunity for special events, business meetings, sports groups, lectures and presentations.

Event Spaces

Event spaces include lecture theatres, flexible seating classrooms, meeting rooms and open public areas, with maximum availability during the summer months (May through August), or on evenings and weekends during the Spring and Fall semesters.

Lecture theatres contain state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, and most are equipped with data projectors and internet connections. Tiered seating theatres range in size from 36-504 seats, all with folding writing tables on each chair.

Flexible classroom spaces range between 20-50 seats, and can be set either in classroom or boardroom seating. They come equipped with an overhead projector, blackboards and projection screens; many offer natural light.

Guest Accommodations

SFU's Residence and Housing provides a variety of accommodations during the summer months in a safe and comfortable environment for groups and associations from 10 to 1,000. In addition, the Simon Hotel, perched on the top two floors of a modern residence building, provides year round accommodation in 14 contemporary guestrooms with spectacular views of the city below.
