Postdoctoral Welcome Day is hosted by the Postdoctoral Affairs Office and our association to orient new and returning postdoctoral fellows to SFU and to provide opportunity for professional development and connecting with other fellows. Calling all new and returning postdoctoral fellows at SFU—join us for the spring Postdoctoral Fellows Welcome Day on February 21, 2024, to have a chance to socialize with your peers and connect with your Associate Vice President research and international, Valorie Crooks, your postdoctoral affairs coordinator, Clare Zheng, and other administrators who will support your journey at SFU.

We have heard from you, and for the first time ever, we are holding the Postdoctoral Welcome Day at SFU Surrey Campus, so please come out if you work there and please come and explore our beautiful Surrey campus if you have never been.

SCHEDULE OF THE DAY

PART 1: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP (1:00pm - 3:00pm @ SRYC5320)

Note: This event is only available to current SFU postdoctoral fellows.

Dealing with Conflict Situations: Respectful Learning Environments and Communication at SFU

In this participatory professional development workshop, you will learn and hear about:

Systemic Barriers in Post-Secondary Education
Implicit Bias and Strategies
GP 47 Guiding Principles
Consent and Boundaries
Supporting Disclosures and Other Resources

The workshop will be facilitated by Christeen Livingstone (Conflict Resolution and Investigation Specialist), and Rana Hakami (Anti-Bullying Specialist).

Seating is limited and registration is required.

PART 2: POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS WELCOME DAY NETWORKING EVENT (SRYC5360)

Note: This event is open to all. Food and refreshments will be provided.

After brief opening remarks, there will be ample opportunity and space to socialize and network with new and existing postdoctoral fellows and other members of our wider SFU research community. It is a great opportunity to build your professional portfolio.

A photographer will also be available to take pictures during the event. Photos will be made available to all postdoctoral fellows after the event (distributed/emailed to the general postdoctoral fellow email list).

We look forward to this special day to commemorate and welcome our postdoctoral fellows—invaluable members of our SFU community.

Calling all new and returning postdoctoral fellows at SFU—join us for Postdoctoral Fellows Welcome Day on October, 17, 2023!

The day will begin with a professional development workshop (1-2:30pm), followed by a networking mingler (3-5pm). Refreshments will be provided. A professional photographer will also be on site to take free headshot photos to those who have registered.
