August 10, 2013The Marg Jones Stakes: Hastings Racetrack August 10, 2013 Time: 12:30PM–5:0PM Hello again,retirees. I'm pleased to announce that arrangements have been made for a repeat of the annual Day at the Races at Hastings Racetrack. The "Marg Jones Stakes" (as it's known to SFURA members) will be run on August 10th, 2013 starting just after noon. Last year, 40 people attended this very entertaining event and I hope that we can entice similar numbers to attend this year. See Home Page for details. -

Writing a Canadian Life: P. K. Page, A Journey with No Maps

September 17, 2013Presenter: Sandra Djwa "What do I have to tell you? I could wish today was fifty years ago for then, chock-full of schooling and high spirits, I knew what was what. And where. And even when." P.K. Page "Address (to the graduating class) at Simon Fraser," 1991 Sandra Djwa is a Professor Emerita in the Department of English. Her talk will present her acclaimed biography of one of English Canada's most important poets of the last fifty years. Journey with No Maps: A Life of P. K. Page was published by McGill-Queen's University Press in 2012. It was shortlisted for the 2013 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non- Fiction. This is the first in the Fall 2013 SFURA seminar series and will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Halpern Centre. (Note the time is earlier than previous seminars.) All members of the SFU community are welcome to attend these events. The talks are free and no registration is required.
