Comedian, UCB-founder Matt Besser joins SFU Vancouver Speaker Series

Matt Besser, renowned comedian and co-founder of the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) will speak at Simon Fraser University’s Vancouver campus on Dec. 6 as part of the SFU Vancouver Speaker Series.

In addition to his talk, Besser will perform a live version of his celebrated podcast “improv4humans” alongside members of Vancouver’s award-winning improv group The Sunday Service.

Besser is a founding member of improvisation theatres and schools. His credits include appearances on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Spin City,” “Frasier,” “Human Giant,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Reno 911,” “Key & Peele,” “Parks & Recreation,” and “Comedy Bang! Bang!”

With a mission to foster both an appreciation and education of the arts through affordable and high quality comedic performances and classes, the UCB founded by Besser along with Amy Poehler (“Parks & Recreation”), Matt Walsh (“Veep”) and Ian Roberts (“Arrested Development”), has recently opened its fourth theatre and training centre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The UCB has been a breeding ground for stars like Scott Aukerman (“Comedy Bang! Bang!”), Andy Daly (“Review), Lauren Lapkus (“Orange is the New Black”), Bobby Moynihan (“Saturday Night Live), Adam Pally (“Happy Endings”), Ben Schwartz (“Parks & Recreation,” “House of Lies), and Harris Wittels (“Parks and Recreation,” “Eastbound” and “Down”).

The SFU Vancouver Speaker Series brings global experts to a local audience. Launched in 2012, the series builds on SFU’s rich history of community engagement by exploring critical issues to contribute to better understanding among Vancouver’s citizens through an intellectually enriching experience.

The SFU Vancouver Speaker Series is presented by SFU Public Square, in partnership with SFU Vancouver and SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement.
