REEL 29 COMMENTARY

3. Takes 3-19 all very short. In each one a man from the factory describes the machines and their work process. Most ambiences are loud broadband sounds, with no significant changes between areas. There is no audible connection between work process and the sounds of the machines. Acoustically of little interest.

20. Recordists approaching, entering and talking to sailmaker. Sound of rattly sewing machines throughout, scissors, a radio playing quietly in background. Note the sound of sails being moved into proper position for sewing.

21. Scissors cutting nylon sail.

22. Folding nylon sails.

23. Recorded from car, very distant.

25, 26. Hammering and sawing. Hammering produces nice "wooden" reverberance in ship's body.

27. Description of type of boat built.

28. Women talking outside at a distance. Note the very quiet ambience.
