REEL 81 COMMENTARY

1. Recorded from the car window on a lonely dirt road about five miles west of Girvin. A light snow on the ground and fog in the air; very, very quiet. The animals were grouped together for warmth. Beginning of take some bad clunks. Then, 1'00" high moo. 2'20" another and a strange gurgle. 2'55" low moo. 3'05" low moo. 6'55" distant pair of moos. 7'10" middle moos. 8'10" distant vehicle coming and, 8'40" "whoosh"! 9'05" very distant moo. 10'00" two-toned moo, followed by responses. 10'45" high multiphonic moo! Profound silence between moos.

2. After some talk at beginning, dead quiet. Change of levels (1'00"). Feeding is almost inaudible, no moos, occasionally some birds in background.

3. Walking inside, knocking. Very, very quiet space (wooden interior ambience). Kids offering information and service. Talking and laughing in background.

4. Knocking, quiet talking, opening door. Lots of annoying crackles on right channel. Woman giving directions, and other chit chat.

5. The machine is somewhere in the darkness in distance, seemingly going around in circles. Microphone noise on right channel until end of take. Snowmobile comes closer (13'00"), stops (13'15"), distant highway noise noticeable.
