Subject: Risk Assessments

Hi Everyone
The University of Ottawa is currently undertaking a risk assessment
of our high risk areas to assist the University in developing a
contingency plan. At the moment, we are collecting data from rooms,
labs and building that could be claasified as high risk, e.g., the
Faculties of Science, Medicine and Engineering. As part of this
process, we hope to develop a rsik map of, not only, all buildings on
campus, but also within buildings. This will hopefully assist
firefighters and emergency responders in identifying the risks of
certain buildings or areas within buildings before arriving at the
scene.
In order to complete this process, we are trying to establish levels
of risk which would be pertinent in these situations, or which may
impact on personal safety or third party liability. My questions to
the list are:
1) Has anyone carried out a risk assessment on their campus?
2) If so, what criteria were used to develop risk levels?
At the moment we have several models which have been developed by
MIACC, the Chemical Industry Association, etc, but very few are
relevant to a campus with diverse research activities. Any tips or
suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Mike
