Executive Education

This material came out of the popular MBA class on emerging markets that we created and taught together at Harvard Business School. Besides graduating hundreds of students trained in this approach we have taught executives and policymakers from around the world. Using HBS cases, many of which we wrote, we teach about firm strategy in each of the four markets, as well as the tools to analyze the wider economic environment.

Here is an example of a 2-day workshop in which the following topics are covered:

Tools:
 • The Frontier Economy Scorecard
 • The Four Markets
 • Mapping Frontier Economies
 • The Five Archetypal Frontier Economies
 • From Economy to Strategy
 • Stakeholder Analysis

Topics:
 • Resource curse
 • Dutch disease
 • China in Africa
 • State capitalism
 • Financial crises
 • International politics
 • Corruption and governance
 • Concession agreements
 • The hold-up problem

At the end of the session, your firm will have a new approach towards understanding frontier economies and an action plan to carry it out.
