SCRIPT
The short will begin with the animation portion. While the credits roll, gears will be turning and sparks can be seen flying. Hammering and drilling sounds are heard in the background. We then cut to a close up of Zoey, an alien-robot who is the main character. She has a determined look on her face - her tongue is sticking out in concentration, and her eyes are darting back and forth. Scribbling sounds are heard in the background. We zoom out and see that she is at her desk, furiously scribbling on something. Above her desk is a giant cork board. It is filled with pictures and diagrams of planet Earth - satellite photos, drawings, technical diagrams, etc.
We then cut to a series of scenes where Zoey is struggling to build something. She lugs rocks that are half her size up a makeshift scaffolding. She carefully braids string together and tests its strength by pulling on it. She ties sticks together into a hoop and hand-sews a basket made of the previously braided string onto it. She hammers pieces of wood together. We zoom out and see that she has constructed something of a Rube Goldberg machine which looks like a giant see-saw. Above one side of the see-saw, there is a basket 10x the size of Zoey hanging precariously off of the makeshift scaffolding. Along the "see-saw," there are tubes that run along the entire length. Zoey smiles in satisfaction and climbs onto the see-saw side that does not have the rocks hanging over it. The see-saw dips in response to her weight, and she is now next to a marble that is sitting on the edge of the tube that is next to the see-saw. She takes a deep breath, and pushes the marble into the tube. The marble goes through the tube and hits various obstacles before a pair of scissors are made to cut the string that is holding the rocks. The rocks fall, and Zoey is sent into midair.
We zoom out to a shot in the universe. Zoey has been sent flying from planet Zlat to planet Earth.
On Earth, Zoey's face is full of wonder. The wonder turns into confusion as people rush past her and she cannot understand anything. She finds her way to FIC at SFU and is welcomed there. She is then shown in the classrooms having having a good time and learning a lot.
