The Hon. Art Eggleton, Canadian Minister of National Defence

will present the opening address on Saturday, May 19th, at a conference posing such questions as:

·        Can Canada play a meaningful role in European security issues?

·        What are the political and military issues that Canada will confront in the missions and institutions of the “new” NATO?

·        How can Canada best relate to the ongoing Balkan crisis?

·        What are the implications of an autonomous European defence policy?

·        How will the Russian Federation relate to changes in Euro-security?

·        What is Canada’s position regarding nuclear weapons, proliferation, and arms control issues?
