Wildlife

Bears

If you're working outdoors in BC, or most anywhere in North America, you will encounter bears in the wild. Your goal in all instances is to keep visual encounters from becoming physical encounters. Whether driving, hiking, or in camp, ensure that you are being "Bear Aware" and minimize the chance of a problem encounter.

Cougars

While cougar encounters are rare, and attacks even more rare, they do still occur. As with any wildlife, assume the possibility of unpredictable behaviour and follow best practices.

Moose and other large mammals

Caution needs to be taken around all large wildlife. Special care should especially be observed when driving in areas inhabited by moose and other large mammals.

Wolves/Coyotes

Wolves (and coyotes) generally avoid contact with humans, but can act aggressively. Never approach a wild animal and know what to do if an animal shows signs of aggression.

(Rattle)snakes

The only truly venomous snake found in BC is the Northern Pacific (Western) Rattlesnake; however, all BC snakes are protected species and should be left to themselves in the wild (venomous or not...)
