Talk: Andreas Bunte

Wednesday, October 1 2014, 6pm
Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre
149 West Hastings St.

Andreas Bunte is a Berlin based artist who works with experimental film and installation, combining film with media such as collage, architectural structures, sound and text. Blending fiction with historical fact to produce analytical yet visionary narratives, his work examines the way the interplay between architecture, technology, ideology and the human body produces different physical and psychological spaces. His PhD project for the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo examines the genre of "scientific research films," which attempt to subjugate film to utmost realism. His research looks at the genre's filmic grammar and narrative structures, and explores how the concept of "realism" relates to recent philosophical debates about object-oriented ontology and speculative realism.

Presented with the SFU School for the Contemporary Arts' Audain Visual Artist in Residence Program, the Or Gallery and the Republic Gallery.
