MFA Spring Show 2016
No Lost Blips

May 4 - May 15, 2016
Goldcorp Centre for the Arts

No Lost Blips brings together the current workings of graduate students in Simon Fraser University's MFA in Interdisciplinary Studies program. The works in the show range from works in progress to finished pieces, from dance to sculpture to forms of art that trouble the boundaries of traditional art disciplines.

The imminence of "the big one" promises Vancouver a special blip in its future, a moment wherein glass will rain down onto the streets from as high up as sixty two stories, depending on future building permits. A frothy portion of False Creek might find itself rushing over manicured gardens and well kept courtyards, and eventually empty steel columns swaying like poplars in the wind will be satisfied to no longer reflect the world class scenery. They will instead turn inward to better understand themselves, and in doing so the skeletons of post expo development may realize that while nothing lasts, nothing is lost. There is only transformation.

No Lost Blips brings together artworks by current first year MFA students in the School for the Contemporary Arts. The works feature various interdisciplinary art practices and research into subjects as diverse as poking holes in paper, turning pages of a book, overlapping gestures, reappropriating construction materials, and asking children questions.

The exhibition features the work of first year MFA students asmaa al-issa, Matthew Ariaratnam, Dave Biddle, Patrick Blenkarn, Linnea Gwiazda, Julie Hammond, Cale Plut, Tessa Sechay, and Marcelo Vieira, as well as contributions from second year MFA students forever&sunsmell (Ben Wylie and Alex Spence), Scott Saunders, and Emiliano Sepulveda. No Lost Blips takes place throughout the Audain Gallery and various performance venues at SFU Woodward's, 149 West Hastings.

Presented by the School for the Contemporary Arts at SFU.
