This
multi-criteria evaluation was conducted to figure out a suitable
location for a new skate park in the GVRD. This multi-criteria evaluation resulted in the following image:
This image contains several suitable sites for a new
skate park, but within these locations some areas are more suitable
which is
shown by the darker orange colour on the image. Using the group and
area modules in Idrisi revealed that all of the areas present in the
final multi-criteria evaluation have a minimum size of 930 meters
squared, which is the suggested minimum size suggested by the City of
Vancouver, so they all have potential for being a new skate park in the
GVRD.
The implications of this result is that more skate parks required in the
GVRD as evident by the large number of suitable sites that fill the
requirements of the multi-criteria evaluation.
In Idrisi, I took the final image and reclassed
the image in order to
show the top three locations of a new skate park based on the highest
suitability in this image, which all have a comparable suitability
score. I adjusted the display minimum and maximum to find the values of
the top three sites and reclassed the image based on these values. This
resulted in the following boolean image:

These
are the top sites that I would suggest for a new skate park in the
GVRD, based on spatial criteria, and these sites could be reduced
depending on non-spatial attributes associated with each site. These
three sites are located in either Surrey, the City of Langley or the
Township of Langley. This project concludes that a new skate parks
should be added to the GVRD in either of the locations of Surrey, the
City of Langley or the Township of Langley at the specified sites in
the above most suitable sites image. These cities in particular should think about budgeting and researching a new skate park.
