Abstract

Crop plants and food products derived from them are susceptible to infection and decay by a range of fungi (moulds). Our research focuses on developing strategies to understand and manage these economically important microbes. As a case study on how research approaches can provide insight into the epidemiology of these diseases, the progression of fruit infection on greenhouse-grown tomatoes will be discussed. The approaches taken by the greenhouse industry to provide an environmentally sustainable approach to disease reduction will be highlighted.
