From Alison Blair and Keith Fong | FINS Platform Migration and Outage

August 23, 2021

This email is sent on behalf of Alison Blair, Associate Vice-President, Finance, and Keith Fong, Chief Information Officer (interim), IT Services. It has been sent to all faculty and staff.

Dear staff and faculty,

Work is currently underway to upgrade and migrate SFU’s Financial Information System (FINS) (fins.sfu.ca) to a new database platform as of August 30, 2021. This project was initiated due to a vendor announcement that support for the current FINS platform will be ending as of January 2022.

In addition to the platform upgrade, a more streamlined and user-friendly FINS homepage will be introduced and implemented.

What changes will be made as a result of this project and what impacts are expected?
When users log into FINS, they will see a new homepage that is similar to myINFO. The WorkCentres in FINS will remain the same and all functionality within the platform will be unchanged. For more information about what the new homepage will look like, visit: https://www.sfu.ca/finance/linklists.html

Will there be any outages?
Please note that an outage for the FINS system is expected to take place from 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, back online at 8:00 a.m. on August 30, 2021. If you usually access the system during this time, please be sure to close out of the system and make alternate arrangements to access before or after scheduled outage timelines.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact finshelp@sfu.ca

Thank you for your patience and consideration as we work to improve the FINS system and homepage to serve you better.

Sincerely,

Alison Blair
Associate Vice-President, Finance
