UNSUNG HEROES OF SFU: KRYSTAL NESS, VPFA FACILITIES' CLIENT SERVICES SUPERVISOR

Today we launched People of SFU, a new story series that celebrates those at SFU who go above and beyond the call of duty to create community, advance SFU’s mission and make the university a great place to work and learn.

First up: meet Krystal Ness, Client Services Supervisor for the VP Finance and Administration’s (VPFA) Facilities Services. Follow Krystal through a typical work day as she helps create a better campus experience for all community members, one small project at a time.

SFU Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry's Peter Unrau and Razvan Cojocaru isolated a genetic clue that provides new insights into the origin of life.

Since the start of the pandemic, SFU's IT Services has been instrumental in implementing and supporting the platforms and tools that allowed SFU to move its activities online. Find out more about what it took and how they became an unsung hero of SFU's remote learning period.

The Emerging Thought Leaders program will run throughout May, in an online series that helps faculty learn how to position their research and knowledge to be covered in op-eds and media commentary. Application deadline is April 7, space is limited. To increase diversity in media spokespeople, preference will be given to individuals who identify as women, transgender, and gender non-conforming or individuals from under-represented groups, including Black, Indigenous and people of colour.

SFU's Sustainability Office has created a checklist to help you incorporate sustainability actions into your work-from-home set-up or to complete when at home. The checklist was created with COVID-19 in mind and helps support the SFU community as we settle into our new normal.

Following yesterday's update from the Provincial Health Officer, SFU continues to operate at the High (H1) rating on the COVID-19 impact scale with no changes to operation. For more information and answers to frequently asked questions, please visit SFU's COVID-19 webpage.

FEATURED EVENT

March 31

TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY

Tomorrow, March 31, is the International Transgender Day of Visibility. To all of our trans faculty and staff—thank you so much for all that you contribute to our campuses, our communities and the world.

If you're looking for a simple way to show allyship with the trans community at SFU, why not take a few seconds today to add pronouns to your Zoom display name—or remind your students and colleagues to do so? This helps normalize the practice of sharing pronouns and reminds us not to make assumptions about someone’s gender identity based on their appearance.
