SFU ALUMNI'S DIAGNOSIS REDEFINES LIFE'S PURPOSE

Since receiving his young-onset Parkinson's diagnosis seven years ago, Bob de Wit has had a complete shift in his career focus. Bob and his wife Susan, both SFU alumni, are now using their experiences, skills and ties to change the conversation around young-onset Parkinson's and make a difference for those who live with it. Join Bob and Susan on April 9 for a panel on Parkinson's as they talk about their experience with the disease.

 

SFU EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN IS COLLEAGUES' SUPERHERO

Deidre de Jong-Wong has earned a Staff Achievement Award in the work performance category for her work maintaining more than 40 labs and research facilities in the departments of molecular biology & biochemistry and biomedical physiology & kinesiology. A staff member since 2002, de Jong-Wong says each day presents a new challenge and that's her favourite part of the job.

 

OPERATIONAL UPDATES

We continue with our existing COVID-related parking accommodations through the Summer 2021 term. This means there will be no fee for students, faculty, and staff for parking, while visitors and contractors will continue to pay for parking. RADIUS SFU is seeking conscious social innovators who are early in their change-making journey and demonstrate a dedication to creating a positive, sustainable impact for the 2021 RADIUS Fellowship. Do you know a student or a recent grad who wants to develop their leadership capacity, build their professional networks and support their peers? Encourage them to apply for this three month commitment, running online from June 7 to August 31, 2021. Applications close April 18.

Health & Counselling’s “8 Ways to Build Resilience” video series is based on health promotion content from Bouncing Forward, a free non-credit Canvas course. The videos feature activities that students can follow along with to build different aspects of resilience.

BAKE HEALTHY BANNOCK ON WORLD HEALTH DAY

Join Indigenous Red Seal chef Andrew George for a live bannock baking and food sustainability workshop. In addition, he will be joined by renowned Coast Salish ethnobotanist Cease Wyss who will share information about food sustainability.
