Campus Public Safety will start to open up more access to buildings over the next two weeks. Contact patrolop@sfu.ca to alert us to areas where we need doors unlocked and more washroom capacity.

Returning to campus this summer? Complimentary parking at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses will remain in effect for faculty and staff until August 31, 2021. Visit the Parking and Sustainable Mobility website for more information.

GET TO KNOW DUGAN O'NEIL, SFU'S VPRI

"As we emerge from the pandemic, the university has an important role to play in the rebuilding of our economy and our society. In light of climate change, building a more sustainable society is more urgent than ever." 

This month, Dugan O'Neil begins his new role as vice-president, research and international. O'Neil discusses this next step in his SFU journey, his passion for research and what the community can look forward to.

 

SFU's Department of Biological Sciences has established an Indigenous and Black scholarship for graduate students. Initiated by the department's Graduate Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the group hopes to make science accessible for all. Community members can contribute to the scholarship to help reach the goal of $30,000.

RESOURCES AND SUPPORTS FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING ANTISEMITISM

“Recently I met with a group of Jewish students who have experienced increasing antisemitism at #SFU,” says SFU President Joy Johnson. “Their experiences were deeply upsetting. Antisemitism is hate, and it is not acceptable at SFU.”

STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: BIPOC CONSULTATION

The Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) and Student Services are hiring for the Director, Indigenous Student Services. The ISC is looking to consult with BIPOC students on Wednesday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m on what qualities, skills and knowledge the next director should have. Please share this opportunity with your students.

SFU Health & Counselling offers the Support Over Suicide & Students in Distress workshop to all faculty and staff. Participants will learn how to ask about suicidal thoughts and respond to students in distress using effective interpersonal skills. The workshop also guides participants in successfully connecting students with SFU and community-based services. Join the upcoming session on July 20.

It's forest fire season in B.C. Call 9-1-1 if you see a forest or brush fire and call the Campus Safety emergency line (778.782.4500) to report any fire risk concerns. Always properly extinguish smoking materials at smoking kiosks and in urns on campus, and do not smoke in wooded areas.
