GVS

Background

Galvanic Vestibular stimulation (GVS) is the method of sending very low level electric signals to the nerve near the ear to alter balance and orientation in the space. GVS produces body sway and illusion of self-motion resulting in postural re-stabilization.

Goal

Develop technology to assist individuals with neurological deseases to walk (e.g. address freezing for individuals with Parkinson Disease)

Tasks

1.     Write scripts in Matlab/Labview/C to control the vestibulator.

2.     Design/Identify sensors to detect muscle activity in legs.

3.     Work with therapist to run experiments (collect data) in different populations (healthy, people with Parkinson Disease, stroke etc) and modify script/protocol to achieve goals of therapy

Prerequisite:

·                at least 100 credit hours;

·                CGPA>2.8.

·                competent  in Solidworks, mechanical design and stress analysis

Notes:

·                Minimum honorarium is provided.
